Today is the first International Equal Pay Day. ♀💪

“Equal pay means that all workers have the right to receive equal remuneration for work of equal value.” (Un Women)

It will be 257 years before men and women have pay equality. (The World Economic Forum, Global Gender Gap Report 2020)

“Globally, the gender pay gap stands at 16 per cent, meaning women workers earn an average of 84 per cent of what men earn. For women of colour, immigrant women, and women with children, the difference is even greater.” (UN Women)

Equal pay “means ensuring that women and men working in identical or similar jobs receive the same pay.
It also means that women and men should get equal pay when they do work that is completely different but can be shown to be of equal value, when evaluated based on objective criteria. These objective criteria take into account factors such as skills, qualifications, working conditions, levels of responsibility and effort required by the job.” (Equal Pay International, EPIC)
